{To Be a Hotdogger}

We saw the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know. It was the happiest day of my life--happier than high school graduation, or getting married, or finally visiting the Louvre (okay, maybe one step under the Louvre).

And it recalled to memory the time, so long ago (but it was really only a year or two) that me and B decided we were going to audition to be Weeniemobile Patrons--they're called Hotdoggers, and for one short phase in my life, I wanted nothing more than to be one of them. We spent hours rehearsing the jingle. We went to the website, printed out the forms, and even filled out the applications--but I don't think we ever sent them in. I'm not sure why--I might have missed my calling in life.

Anyway, we were in Washington, headed to Oregon, and I was reading Better Home and Gardens Spring Edition, when suddenly, P.K. exclaimed, "What is that??"

I looked up and saw the strangest-looking red and yellow vehicle driving the other way on the divided highway. I didn't recognise it at first, because it was quite a ways away, and the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile doesn't exactly look like a giant Wiener from a head-on view. Here's a rear view, so you can see what I mean:

So you can see why I might've had a difficult time placing the unique vehicle. I quickly realised my errors, though, and shouted with glee, "It's the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile!" My voice got a little louder with every syllable.

We were so awestruck by such an amazing sight--for seeing the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile is something that most people only dream about--that by the time I thought to grab my camera, it was just passing by us. I begged P.K. to turn around at the next Authorized Vehicles Only turn-around point, but I guess when you're lugging a 53-foot trailer around it's just not feasible to do chase Wienermobiles. All I could do was call B and tell her the joyous news, for reference.

But I know I'll see it again someday. It has to be that I'll see it again.

Millie,

Again, I had no idea about this little tidbit of information. I'm a bad sister. When did you go through this phase in your life? I must have missed that era.

I can't believe someone who gets such joy out of a weinermobile doesn't want children. You would be such a fun mom.

is it just me, or is it starting to feel like the "wanting children" thing will never go away, well maybe when camille caves and joins the babymaker club? i thought she said she just doesn't want children right now? what's wrong with waiting? i wouldn't want to drag 3 kids under 5 through the louvre, or looking for the other wienermobile(s).

sounds like something camille said some post ago, about knowing exactly how others SHOULD live their lives? they told me in the "special" hospital, don't "should" on yourself.

camille will be a very fun mom. someday of her own choosing.

Here, here, previous commentor. I don't believe Camille married under duress, why would anyone create a new life under duress?
Camille...i hope it's not snowing down there like it is in Edmonton this morning. There's like 4 inches of the fluffy white on the autos in front of my building. If you're getting snow too, enjoy it, it will be gone in a few days. This is just an Alberta thing, clipper they call it, we sometimes get little fits of snow, AFTER spring has sprung. I think i'll go for a walk in it, before it turns into grey slush.

peace out, u.j.

OF COURSE Camille shouldn't ever have children until she darn well feels like it. I didn't realize I had intimated that she should. But thanks for clearing up the fact that ( I didn't know ) Camille does want children some day.......... But unfortunately the older you get the less energy and youthful excitement you have to give to a child. But please Camille don't have children until you are ready to completely give your life to another little human being or else you will end up resenting them. I hope that clears up my previous flippant comment.

thank you last anonymous, i couldn't remember the second part. wouldn't that be nice, everyone in love with me.
on the mommy thing, i still had energy at 30.maybe camille wants to grow up a bit more before starting to teach a brood. the poor girl's only 21, cut her some slack. or slacks,if it's a nice pattern.

let's talk intimation. we do it, often to not recognise we've done it.called a backhanded compliment.
let's talk "older you get the less energy...".intimates the clock is ticking, breed already.

let's talk "completely". mothers don't completely give their lives over, that's a homily, and innaccurate. they give the child THEIR OWN life, spend most of moms time and energy caring for and teaching, AND fold in family, friends, father, and others in the brood, into the recipe. completely giving over makes dependency, and enmeshed relationships.

to me, graciously admitting to a "flippant" comment has an air of something to it.

the doctor has left the building.

S, thanks so much for this post and for calling me the moment you saw the Weinermobile! It makes me ecstatic and depressed at the same time: YOU SAW THE WEINERMOBILE!!!!!, and yet at the same time it reminds me that we never got to drive across the country in it-singing that splendid jingle and spreading joy...

P.S. I have NEVER seen so many anonymous comments on one post in my life!
