Do Not Pronounce It "Orry-Gawn"

We went on a trip [business related]. A recap, in photos:

Destination: Oregon

Mode of Transportation: The FWhatever50. Naturally.

With a G.P.S. [thank heavens]:

and heated seats...

...which might have been a bit superfluous, since the weather was lovely:

We jammed (jammed?) to this mystery album (any guesses?):

...all the while marveling at the magnificent bridges and tunnels built by the CCC just after the Great Depression. I really appreciate the New Deal. And FDR. Those were the days...

We also marveled at the scrubby trees on the banks of the Columbia River:

Everything was going swell. We picked up trailers at the appointed hour:

And started back on our way (after grabbing a bite to eat):

But then, about midnight, something went terribly wrong. Turns out, our load was four feet over the legal limit in Oregon. And we got in big-time trouble for it:

Not only did PK get a ticket, but we had to leave the trailer at a scale in Washington and go stay in a hotel for the night while we waited for our rescuers (in the form of my in-laws, whom I, like an idiot, forgot to photograph).

It was a most inconvenient detour.

Then the next day we had troubles loading and unloading said offending trailer (which troubles I also failed to photograph because...well...it just wasn't a good time to be taking pictures).

And then we almost didn't make it to the fuel station, which almost didn't have ultra low sulfur diesel, which turns out to be really important stuff.

But everything worked out in...

...The End.

yep...it's all true. And it was FUN to be the rescuing party. The in-laws just hopped out of bed at midnight after having just hopped INTO bed and drove all night to somewhere-in-Washington-across-the-river-from- Oregon, unloaded one 20 foot trailer , pulled it behind our rescue Ford F 350 (Note...the mother-in-law is more versed in the Ford Truck F series than Camille is). Drove all day to Idaho, HAD DINNER AT RED LOBSTER, then watched while Poor Kyle and his poor father watched the WINCH SLIP as they unloaded the trailer and it went careening all by itself into the KMart parking lot, luckily missing crashing into the light standard and the car parked just over THERE. We all watched it helplessly, while Camille laughed inappropriately and her mother-in-law slightly swore appropriately, and their husbands glared. But they did not laugh or swear. So then it was time for Camille and me to go shopping while the menfolk figured out how to reload the trailer and fix the problem. BEST NEWS!! We bought FOUR purses on sale for $3.99 each! What a great day.

The rest of the journey entails a lot of RED BULL energy drink consumption while the father-in-law drives another 600 miles on NO SLEEP SINCE MARCH 31, and the mother-in-law prays all the way that the offending trailer right in front of us on the highway does does not fall off AGAIN and crash into us at 60 mph.

It was fun. It really was. I'd do it again tomorrow. But I need a nap first.

"well...it just wasn't a good time to be taking pictures"

that's usually my favorite time to be taking pictures. as upset as people are, after they get over it they're going to wish they had picture proof to tell all of their friends just how bad it was.

and the pretzels? wow. i've only done such a thing in my dreams!

Millie,

I'm not sure what I enjoyed more: your post or Linda's perspective thereof. I surely am glad that you were all alright. Whew! I don't know about this lugging trailers business. It seems a little dangerous. Good thing P.K. is well versed in the area.

and how do they seriously know that your trailer was over the legal length limit? Did someone really go out there with a tape measure?
